CEREC Technology for Dental Restorations

Thanks to CEREC technology, Dr. Keith Rudolph, DDS can provide patients with inlays, onlays, crowns, and veneers in only one appointment. CEREC stands for Ceramic Reconstruction and is a sophisticated system of designing and making high quality, metal-free dental restorations in one patient visit. Using this system, Dr. Keith Rudolph can restore your smile without the need for laboratory assistance, impressions or temporary restorations.

By providing patients with CEREC technology, we can provide dental restorations at a lower cost to you. Usually, crowns are a multiple visit process, but with CEREC you can have a complete crown done in less than two hours. If you have a cracked tooth, old failing restorations, or otherwise large damage on your teeth, you may be a CEREC candidate. The design and manufacturing process involves optically scanning and digitizing dies created from the master impression of the prepared teeth/cores, so that the dimensions of the margins may be duplicated precisely. The scanned 3D images of the dies are then used to design the substructure, prompted by the computer software. The CEREC machine then creates a restoration according to design specifications.

If you have questions about the CEREC process, give us a call. To learn more about CEREC as well as the services provided at the practice, visit www.drkeithrudolph.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Keith Rudolph, DDS in Fairfield, CT, call 203-254-9533.

Dental Crowns in Fairfield, CT

Crowns are used to protect and strengthen teeth that have become extremely weak, decayed or fractured. Covering your affected tooth and restoring it to its original shape and size, dental crowns (sometimes called caps) can help reduce pain, save your tooth from needing to be extracted and keep your smile beautiful and functional. At our office in Fairfield, CT, Dr. Keith Rudolph can see if a crown is necessary to save your smile.

Over time, as your teeth begin to weaken, they become more susceptible to problems, including decay, cracks and discoloration. Crowns are usually only necessary if decay has reached the point where the tooth structure has become compromised. At our office, we use CEREC restorations, which are made of compressed porcelain and are stronger than the layered porcelain crowns created in a laboratory. In addition to being stronger and longer-wearing, CEREC restorations can also be created and installed in only one visit, unlike laboratory restorations, which can take weeks to complete and require a temporary crown or restoration to be placed in the meantime.

The placement procedure for a CEREC restoration is easy and doesn’t require you to bite on any goopy and uncomfortable impression material. First all the decay is removed from your teeth, and then the dentist shapes the tooth in preparation for the digital 3D video impression that is taken with a digital camera. The camera is attached to a computer screen, which displays the 3D image, allowing the dentist to design the restoration in front of you. Then the CEREC machine creates the crown in about 15 minutes, and the dentist adheres it to the abutment. The entire process, from design to installation, takes around an hour for each tooth.

Offering a variety of benefits, including strength and quick production, CEREC restorations are the first choice for dentists who have their patients’ best interest in mind. At our office in Fairfield, CT, we use CEREC technology to restore our patients’ smiles.
